Background:
From a young age, Melissa had an interest in design which grew into a desire to create homes that were not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but also environmentally-conscious. During her senior year, she was a member of the University of Tennessee team that helped design the single-family residence to be accepted into the U.S. Department of Energy 2011 Solar Decathlon. Their team’s design was one of twenty collegiate teams to be accepted into the worldwide competition. The competition takes place at the National Mall’s West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C. September 23-October 2. This experience inspired Melissa to pursue a career in the solar industry.
